Khoa Yai Country Club
Khoa Yai Country Club is another mountain course near to Friendship Meadows. Upon entering the club house you find yourself facing several pictures of Jack Nicklaus whose firm designed the course. There is a large poster of a letter Jack wrote upon completion of the project. I don't remember the quote I found interesting but paraphrased it said "if the management and marketing team do a good job, this course will become one of the top golf destinations in Asia." Looked to me like the team has failed because the course was basically empty at 9 a.m. on a Sunday, and it was not well maintained. The greens were in bad shape and the native grasses were doing their best to reclaim the fairways. It was still fun to play, and the potetial from the layout was obvious--it definitely needs some help from that team Jack referenced. One thing I liked was that the native vegetation lining the fairways was considered a lateral hazard. That saved me a few stroke and distance penalties, but it didn't help me break 115!
